Clarifying and communicating important ideas in health care
Do we do all our work in-house?
For the most part, yes.  We occasionally use independent contractors with whom we have worked for years.

Do we edit on paper or electronically?
We do both, but you will receive your edited manuscript electronically, in the format you have specified.  We can provide you
with both a marked up and a "clean" version of the manuscript that has had all editing marks removed.

What software do we use?
We usually work with Microsoft Office 2007 (and earlier) programs, but also are proficient in the Corel WordPerfect Office
programs and Adobe Acrobat.

Can we work from audio tapes or a verbatim transcript?
Yes, although this may affect pricing.  Audio tapes can be very useful in understanding the tenor of discussions, but listening
to them is time-consuming.  Verbatim transcripts usually allow us to work faster, although that depends in part on the quality
of the transcription.

Do we have experience in working with authors whose first language is not English?
Yes.  Many of the manuscripts and publications we have completed have involved such work.  Usually, this is more complex
than copy editing and can require some interaction with the writer to be sure we understand what was meant.

Do we have experience in writing for audiences whose first language is not English?
Yes, extensive experience on a range of issues and themes.

Can we help target your written materials to reach a particular audience?
Yes.  Our experience has included writing for and speaking to a range of audiences, from the public to policy makers, top
management and academics.

How do we determine the cost of editing and writing projects?
In most cases, we estimate based on the amount of time we expect the project will require.  After years of experience, our
estimates are very reliable.

How do we determine our charges for manuscript editing?
We consider a number of factors when determining what a job will cost:
  • the quality of the rough manuscript and how much/what type of work is required to produce a quality product
  • the closeness of your deadline--tight deadlines are more expensive
  • whether a particular format is required for the editing copy and what that format entails
  • whether the content is high technical and may require additional checking of terminology, spellings, etc.
